WILL GWYNTH LET ‘GOOP ASPEN’ STAY FOR GOOD?

The great Gwyneth Paltrow was on hand last Friday to christen the new Goop Aspen (422 E. Cooper Ave.) and its impressive array of home goods, cookbooks, candles, creams and frippery, including vintage Chanel purses, a Rolex Submariner, and an Hermès Birkin bag. In keeping with current retail trends, this is but a pop-up, pumpkining August 18th.

When asked if the store might stick around a bit longer Paltrow smiled sheepishly, “Well, I guess we will have to see.” In a short toast, she mentioned that she is not the first Paltrow to lease space in Aspen. Her father, producer Bruce Paltrow, ran a popular restaurant called Gordon’s in the 1980s that was frequented by assorted Kennedys, Fondas and a litany of bold-faced names including Barbara Walters, Rupert Murdoch, Don Johnson, Jack Nicholson, Paul Simon, Cheryl Tiegs, Calvin Klein, Glenn Frey, Don Henley and Goldie and Kurt—that according to a glowing 1987 review in The Los Angeles Times.

Back then, a young Gwyneth took reservations, helped around the restaurant and made time for skiing in between. Let’s hope this generation of Paltrows stick around for goop, I mean, for good.
